How many times are you lucky enough to post on two great ideas in a single day.
For all I know, a charmed third is on the way, but I could care less: after FreeRice, this one–EndOfThisWorld.com–a communal novel project, is likely to occupy all my procrastination time for a while.
Like NaNoWriMo, it brings writers together in a bold online project. Unlike NaNoWriMo it’s somewhat competitive, even though the ultimate end is a single work, an “online collaborative novel.”
Here’s how EndOfThisWorld describes their objective…
“The goal of EndOfThisWorld is to create a surreal novel beginning with a seed event, such as the one above, that undergoes an avalanche leading to a global catastrophe.” The story has been launched–it’s up to Chapter 3–and will proceed chapter by chapter until it’s over–literally, the end of this world.
If you want to jump in (it’s still early) go to the EndOfthisWorld site <http://endofthisworld.com> and register (free). Then catch up with the story so far and contribute your own next chapter. Obviously there will be a number of submissions for any given chapter. After reading them all, vote for your favorite. The the high vote-getter’s chapter becomes official…and we move on.
Unlike FreeRice this bright idea has nothing to do with saving the world–just the opposite, in fact. But for fiction writers, it’s the rough equivalent of pickup basketball. Fun–and something new for me personally, since millenial SF isn’t what I usually write.
I love this idea. I spotted an ad for it on Facebook about 20 minutes ago, I’m already registered, and here I am finishing up this post. I can’t wait to try it out.
