Today at midnight, another Nanowrimo shuts down, leaving a trail of bright faced winners and guilt ridden losers.
This year I’m in the latter group. Do I feel bad? Hell no. I feel like a winner…almost. Why? Here’s how I put it this time last year, in a possibly prophetic piece of video.
My gift…I clocked about 30,000 words for the month, way over my normal 500 per day. More important, I’ve revived a promising novel that had ground to a standstill.
Nanowrimo is ingeniously simple, marvelously free form–so much so that I’m declaring a personal 2-week extension for myself. I may even step into the 50,000 word winners circle on my lonesome, long after everyone else has vacated.
Maybe I’ll be the fourth wise man (remember that old tale?) but who cares? As far as I’m concerned, win or lose, once again Nanowrimo has served its purpose.
Thanks guys!

Amen! I won, by a hair at the last minute. I’ve been “grinding” out words for months and months, but it wasn’t until these last few days that I finally found my flow again.
Thank God. I thought I’d lost it forever. God Bless NaNo.
Now I wish I had done nano. I haven’t done nano for two years in a row. For the past two years I’ve been in the middle of other writing stuff and writing a new rough draft isn’t on the agenda. I hope to arrange my writing schedule in such a way so that next year I’m able to participate in Nano.
