This is so useful to me. Thanks. I tend to be impatient sometimes and want to send my manuscript off even though I know it is not yet a polished draft. And then I read in the New Yorker about Jonathan Safran Foer writing his first story as a freshman at Princeton in a class with Joyce Carol Oates. She tells him when he arrives early for class, "I'm a fan of your work." After his first story ever! And he goes on to write 300 pages and to publish so soon. Oh, well. Comparisons are odious. I will submit when I'm ready. Thanks for all the tips and for the encouragement.
