King's saying most writers can't explain how they write "good stuff". Maradona and Jordan can't explain how they do what they do either.

I think some writers are very good at deconstructing and articulating what they do and some are a little mystified by it themselves. I have a lot of books on writing and I suspect there is good information in almost every one. The challenge for me is in choosing the right book at the right time. The only time I think an author who writes about craft or the process of writing is off base is when he states an absolute, which is almost what Stephen King has done. I feel like I get better the more I write and the more I learn, but I've already found that a process that doesn't seem to work for me today, may be the perfect thing to try tomorrow. Not only do all authors seem to have different views on learning craft, but I have to believe that each author's views probably evolve over time.
