No Way! Novel Readers Can’t Abide It

Last week I asked fiction readers which single piece of failed craftsmanship would make them toss a novel aside forever.

So far the poll results make sense, yet a couple of trends surprise me.

Stiff, unrealistic dialogue–something that drives me up the wall–seems to be the least vexing of problems.

Oversummarized narrative–the next least concerning lapse–is another turnoff for me.

I’m curious to know whether or not a larger sampling might alter the distribution. If you haven’t voted, the poll is still live, so tell your friends and jump in. I’ll leave it up for another week or so before calling it “definitive.”
