Two more days until the official NaNoWriMo clock starts ticking. (Yes, I know I said “Monday” in a previous post, but that was, shall we say, operator error). Here’s my plan:
I have a story in mind–I even took notes on it a couple of years ago. That, I figure, will enable me to lay out the work in 30 1,500 word work days. Sounds like a plan, doesn’t it.
But in this process…stuff happens. That I know.
You always start a journey with some intentions, a map, an itinerary, and it seems SOOO certain that you’ll reach your destination right on time. But there is something unruly and plan-resistent about this business of creating a group of fictional people, designing their world, and releasing the forces withiin the events they live through–something that pulls the wheel out of your hands. I know that’s going to happen.
So why have a plan at all? Because I WANT tbat to happen. I want to feel that wheel pulling and tugging, trying to wrest control; it will make me grip tighter, pull back, and that’s when the trip will get interesting.

I read an article by someone who did this during last year’s, I think. And since I am in the middle of a type of life detail slump myself, I think I might join you Bill. You’ve inspired me. Let me see if I can find others in Qatar who might jump into this quest….
That’s great, Mohana. Spread the word. A whole bunch of novels from Qatar would be fantastic.
