&lt;p&gt;When your story is breaking down and you have no idea how to fix it, give the hero a friend. &lt;/p&gt;

The most expensive book I have is a beautiful, pristine, cello-wrapped, signed first edition of his uncollected short fiction (can that be right?), BAGOMBO SNUFF BOX. There&#039;s a wonderful section in his introduction called &quot;Now lend me your ears. Here is Creative Writing 101:&quot;, after which, he lists 8 rules that I wrote on a giant white board in my office a year ago and still refer to daily. Wow. Kurt Vonnegut. I just loved him.&lt;/p&gt;
